Pray for Sound

Written by Jim S.

A while back I shamelessly plugged my son’s band, The Color and Sound. Not satisfied with having just one band, he is involved with (guitarist for) two of them. This one is called Pray for Sound and they are a “Massachusetts-based instrumental post-rock band started in 2011.”

I will quote Wikipedia here in regards to post-rock: “a subgenre of rock music characterized by the influence and use of instruments commonly associated with rock, but using rhythms and guitars as facilitators of timbre and textures not traditionally found in rock. Post-rock bands are often without vocals.”

An online magazine – Metalsucks –  called them “the best instrumental band you’ll hear all year.”  That was in late 2014. They’re even better now. One of their more popular songs is called “Monophonic.” I find the music has a dreamy, hypnotic effect….

If you like that, check out their bandcamp site. They are also playing at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA on Dec. 6th.  Tell ’em dad sent ya.

Thanks for sharing the video “Monophonic”. I really enjoyed the, as you said, hypnotic effect of the instrumental sound. The ending was totally unexpected and really fun to be a part of. I’ll will check out their other songs.

Thanks. I’m told that the post-rock genre is really popular in Europe and in fact, they have a yearly festival just for that.

This song was just what I needed right now. I enjoy this genre but especially like this song. I would pay to listen to this, in fact, I think I will…

    Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your feedback on the song. I hadn’t heard it in a while myself and so listened to it again before posting it. And I will say as objectively as I can – given that it’s my son – it’s a pretty good song. 🙂

Yeah, thanks. You’ll find another post about PFS later on and one about his band Color and Sound.
