Cynthia Robinson

I don’t usually post more frequently than every couple of days. But I felt it necessary to mark the passing of Cynthia Robinson, who was the trumpeter in Sly and the Family Stone. Dammit, I’m tired of having to see so many musical heroes of mine pass on. But it’s inevitable, right?

Anyway, I have a post planned for down the road on the whole band so I’ll save further discussion for that. But just note that she was an anomaly – a female trumpeter in the ’60’s in an integrated (gender, race) band. She totally pulled it off. And what music they made!

I’ll leave the last word on this (for now) to Sly (from “Dance to the Music”):

If I could hear the horns blow
Cynthia on the throne, yeah!

RIP
