A Song I Love – River Boulevard – The Pointer Sisters

I had initially drafted this post to celebrate what I – and pretty much everybody – thought was going to be a Hillary Clinton win. But to see we are all shocked here would be a tremendous understatement. I don’t think even Trump’s supporters thought he was going to win. (And isn’t it significant that one of the first people to congratulate him was his fellow authoritarian, Vladimir Putin.) It is not too fine a point to say that this is our Brexit.

Trump supporters are happy; the rest of us are saddened and horrified. How all the prognosticators got this wrong is something that will be studied for years to come.

And so I could post an apocalyptic song of despair. But I choose not to do that. Instead I’ll post the exact same song I was going to post had she won. No, today is not a beautiful day, at least as far as I’m concerned. But I’ll pretend it’s 24 hours ago and there was still hope.

America be careful what you wish for. You just might get it:

Walking down the road this morning
The sun’s in my eyes
The smell of the sweet sweet blossoms
Steps right thru my mind
And I say

Isn’t it just a beautiful day?
Isn’t it just a beautiful day?

Passing by familiar houses
I was getting on close to home
I could tell by that special feeling
That was going down to my soul
And I say

Isn’t it just a beautiful day?
Isn’t it just a beautiful day?

The river was rolling
Gently on its way
Sweet little children
Were coming out to play

And it made me feel so happy!
I didn’t know what to say, except
Thank you for this life I’m living
And the song I sing today
And I say

Isn’t it just a beautiful day?
Isn’t it just a beautiful day?
Isn’t it just a beautiful day?
Isn’t it just a beautiful day?
Isn’t it just a beautiful day?
Isn’t it just a beautiful day?
Isn’t it just a beautiful day?
Isn’t it just a beautiful day?
