My Life in Spam

Inspired – if that’s the right word – by fellow blogger 2 Loud 2 Old Music’s post on his Panera-inspired tote bags, I figured that I too could take a break from writing about music and talk about something near and dear to all out hearts which is ….

SPAM!!!!

Yes, that scourge of every email system, every blogger, and every user of social media. The type of spam that one gets is, I guess, greatly influenced by what it is you’re doing or the spammer’s thoughts on what they might get by spamming you. Now, I don’t know about anyone else but I get a fair amount of spam. I currently have 32 messages in spam and I think that’s just about a week’s worth.

WordPress does a pretty damn good job of recognizing spam, occasionally tossing a legitimate comment on there. But I thought it would be illuminating (if not fun) for you, dear reader, to see the kind of shit I get on a regular basis.

The great majority of them are trying to get into my shorts by complimenting me. Occasionally some try to insult me. The wonder is that after seven years of blogging that any of these shitheads think I’m going to let them in the door so they can sell something.

Herewith, a sampling. Half of them sound like Borat wrote them. Not a few come from beauty and fashion places, a few from RV joints, every now and again someone wants to boost my web site. Oddly, very little porno.

Anyway, enjoy! (Comments bolded)

Thanks for your publiction. Another issue is that being a photographer requires not only difficulties in taking award-winning photographs but hardships in acquiring the best camera suited to your requirements and most especially challenges in maintaining the caliber of your camera. This is certainly very true and apparent for those photography enthusiasts that are in capturing a nature’s captivating scenes — the mountains, the particular forests, the wild or seas. Visiting these daring places surely requires a digicam that can meet the wild’s nasty setting.

  1. Oh, my, spam. It’s truly dreadful! As you said, thank goodness WordPress does a decent job filtering out spam comments. I’m also thankful for the “bulk edit” function to weed out this garbage!

    1. Yeah, I have no choice but to at least scan through it ‘coz every now and again a legitimate comment gets caught in the net. But I’m pretty good at weeding out the crap pretty fast .It’s always the same. Funny but years ago I had a professional website for some business and initially – not knowing any better – I thought they were genuinely flattering me. Didn’t take long to catch on. What a stupid waste of time.

  2. So much spam. Glad I could inspire a non-music post. I’m getting lately all these links in my comments of people reposting my post or whatever, kind of weird.

    1. Yes, yes, I pride myself in being great thinker on such subjects as we have largely discussed. Perhaps many others feel such a way too.

  4. I don’t get much spam for some reason. I think it’s often a bot doing it rather than a person. Although the people who write the messages for the bot should really up their game.

    1. Lucky you. I think I need to tighten up my time window of accepted comments. I have to at least scan through them to make sure no legitimate comments get in there which happens from time to time.

      1. I’ve never done that. I should experiment with moving my comment section further up the page as I don’t get as many comments from random visitors on old pages as i used to. But it might be stopping the bots as well.

        1. It’s harder to find the comment section since you changed your template. I lowered the comment window from 120 days to 50 days.
